5 reasons to try Jindii Eco Spa in Canberra
My sister gave me a gift voucher for a facial at Jindii Eco Spa. I died and went to heaven. Here are five reasons why you must treat yourself and experience this hidden gem.
1. Location, Location, Location
The spa is tucked away in the heart of the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Need I say more? It's large glass windows, wooden floors and minimalist style creates the perfect environment for relaxation. Surrounded by the gardens and established trees, it feels like you could be miles away from town.
2. You will be treated like the Queen (or King) you are
I was met by the world's calmest lady, Sue, who guided me into a dimly-lit room which smelled of lemon myrtle. She sat me on a chair with a cup of herbal tea, and gave me a warm foot bath.
As she rubbed my feet with care, she said "this will help you get out of your head and into your body" - it sure did. Afterwards I got under the blankets of a heated bed which instantly made any worries and tension melt away. She told me to take a few deep breaths, almost like a mini meditation, which was a lovely way to start.
Throughout the entire treatment I felt like a baby being nurtured, which was just what I needed after nurturing my own baby for the past seven months.
3. Inspired by Australia and it’s Aboriginal culture
The essence of Jindii is inspired by native Australia and it’s Aboriginal heritage. A thank you to the traditional owners of the land was shared before a brief smoking ceremony was held over the bed (they do ask if you're comfortable with this, so keep in mind if you have allergies or asthma). The smoke is not strong, and leaves a natural earthy aroma in the room. The faint sound of didgeridoo music plays throughout the building.
4. They use organic and sustainable products
Natural Australian brand iKOU is used on clients and available to purchase from the spa. Founded in the Blue Mountains by Naomi and Paul Whitfield, iKOU is Japanese for rest, relax, restore - which is exactly the effect it has when used.
5. Great food + coffee next door
Pollen Cafe is a short walk up the grassy knoll. Perfect for a post-zen coffee or herbal tea. The cafe, previously known as Hudson's, boasts a shabby chic-meets-hamptons look.
The destination was transformed by cafe-wizard Tracy Keely, who also revamped BOOKPLATE at the National Library of Australia. You can snuggle into cosy lounges inside or under the heated pergola. On a sunny day the best seat in the house is on the large outdoor deck under the gumtrees where you can enjoy a fresh menu of breakfast and lunch, beautiful cakes and Veneziano coffee.
If these five reasons can't sway you to indulge in one of their beautiful treatments, you might be interested in the evening yoga classes held in the large relaxing space at the back. You can also check out various events held at Jindii, such as their Mindful Living series.
