Bungendore Gem: The Gathering
Located just 35 minutes from the heart of Canberra, Bungendore is a cute historic town encompassing a friendly, rural vibe. It's a cruisy drive through green rolling hills to the historic village, perfect for a day trip.
There are plenty of local eateries and eclectic shops to explore. We decided to take a quick trip to check out a coffee shop we haven't yet tried (the aim of the drive was to put Billy to sleep!)
The Gathering is located on Gibraltar Street - just look for the old wooden wheels that act as tables and the lovely green shrubs and flowers out the front.
They call themselves a 'traditional coffee house with an honest twist'. Their objective is to nourish and provide hearty, homemade goodies to the locals and visitors, along with Canberra coffee beans from Lonsdale Street Roasters.
We scored a spot in the cosy window lounge seat right next to the tall windows of the old shopfront. The dark timber floorboards and high ceilings give praise to the original shape of the building, which holds a country barn-style meets rustic chic fit-out.
Big wooden antique tables with ample seating are dotted around, with a dedicated kids corner with adorable wooden toys.
Perfect when you just want the kids to do their own thing while you inhale a coffee while it's hot!
We shared the pumpkin bruschetta followed by classic scones with jam and cream. All homemade on the premises.
Local artwork is displayed on the walls and available for purchase.
The Gathering would be perfect for all sorts of outings, from mum group coffee meet-ups or a quiet lunch with a friend.
Open everyday except Mondays.
