Braidwood Part 2: Shop

We told you where to eat and drink in Braidwood, and now it’s time to tell you where to shop! Here are the top five places for some retail therapy in the beautiful historic town.

Mr Mr Store

Mr Mr Store features edgy jewellery, swimwear, clothing and accessories. They stock a huge range of Australian and international designers, personally chosen by owners Laura Miers and Luke Robinson. Chunky tables hold display cabinets full of unique jewellery next to racks of bright athletic clothing, shoes, wall art and bath products. It really is cool label heaven!

The flagship store was opened in November 2017 and also offers an online boutique, so you can snap up their goodies wherever you are in the world. Look for the big cactus and neon sign on Wallace Street.

Open 9am-5pm, closed Tuesdays.

Saloon Design House

Fabric lovers, rejoice. This will be heaven for you. Saloon is Boho Chic meets Wild Wild West meets Picnic at Hanging Rock. Yes, all of those do work together, and Saloon totally pulls it off! Here you will find flowing dresses, skirts and shirts lovingly made from vintage and natural materials, including Liberty of London fabric.

Not only is Saloon a bad-ass women’s clothing store, but it also offers a sewing space for designers to work their magic, and where most of the items for sale are produced.

Note: Their website is currently under construction, but you can check out their Instagram in the meantime @saloondesignhouse. Closed Sundays and Mondays.

Sandalwood Homewares

Launched in February 2014, Sandalwood Homewares brings a little bit of South-East Asia to the rural NSW town. Inspired by that part of the globe, you will find brightly coloured textiles, furniture, homewares, jewellery, accessories and kitchenware.

Closed Wednesdays. Located on Wallace Street.

Braidwood Antiques

What would a small country town be if it didn’t have an antiques store? Braidwood Antiques has a classic mix of traditional, industrial and vintage furniture, and aims to find each historic piece a safe home.

The owners are passionate about the quality and craftsmanship that each table, chair and cupboard holds, which also comes with it’s own story. Forget today’s flatpack IKEA table - go out and find yourself something beautiful that will stand the test of time.

Open 10am-4pm. Closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Born Vintage

The Old Maternity Hospital. When you hear these words, I bet you don’t think of vintage records, clothing, retro furniture and nic-nacs from almost every decade. Well, you should. Because Born Vintage has all of these inside the original Braidwood maternity hospital.

You have to search amongst the suburbs, but on Elrington Street, look for the house with a mannequin in the window. Slightly creepy, but once you enter, the friendly owner will make you feel right at home. Make sure you go up the narrow stairway to the attic which is full of fabulous records, posters and clothing.
