assembly: Lonsdale Street's latest hot spot
Any Canberra local will know that over the last few years Lonsdale St in Braddon has been a constant flurry of new apartments, shopfronts and rainbow roundabouts.
Recently, behind a boarded-up wall covered in local art, the bones of Braddon's newest restaurant and bar, assembly, have been in creation. Emerging from behind the painted wooden vale, the matte black, edgy building is hard to miss. Large shabby wooden doors with spectacular brass discs for handles welcome guests into the buzzing pub-style restaurant.
With a mix of old school booths, window-facing benches and comfy leather chairs, there is plenty of seating for groups big and small.
As you walk in, a large impressive bar stretches along the left side of the room out to a large beer garden coated in fairy lights. A separate ‘Tinnie Bar’ is out the back for easy access to your favourite tin of beer.
They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner along with tip top coffee served from 6.30am, so it's popular among the early birds and tradies.
I had the ricotta and muesli bowl, served with a salty-sweet hazelnut crumb. So good. The breakfast menu will please the usual Braddon brunch crowd with their fritters, hotcake, pulled pork benedict and range of Sonoma bread.
Open 7 days a week, this place is constantly pumping. It’s dog and baby friendly with plenty of highchairs available, and a dog bowl out front for the pups!
